NIGERIAN DWARF GOATS

The Nigerian Dwarf is a miniature dairy goat which originated in South Africia and brought to the United States on ships as food for large cats such as lions. Those that survived the trip usually ended up living in zoos. It certainly has come a long way since that time and is now a recognized breed in the American Dairy Goat Association as well as the American Goat Registry.

The balanced proportions of the Nigerian Dwarf give it the appearance of the larger breeds of dairy goats; does stand no more than 22.5" (57cm) and bucks no more than 23.5" (60cm). Any color or combination of colors is acceptable. The medium length ears are erect and alert. The face is either straight or dished, and the hair is short and fine.

Our latest venture is Nigerian Drawfs which we thought would be a wonderful little goat to have around in our retirement! We again through Michael, did our homework and have a small herd of nice Nigerians. Thanks go out to Pam Ebert of Agape Oaks and Dave Funk of Chenango Hills for a wonderful start into theses neat little goats.

We have dispersed our little Nigerian herd. We really enjoyed them but it was time to cut back and we really did not show them but enjoyed them at home!
