OBERHASLI GOATS
In 1936, Dr. H.O. Pence of Kansas City, MO imported a group of Swiss Alpines and it is from this group of animals (Swiss Alpines as Obershalis were then called) that our present day Oberhasli descended. Many of the Swiss Alpines were bred to French or American Alpines and became associated with the Alpine registry. It proved to be beneficial to the Alpine herd book but certainly not to the Oberhasli breeders. One of the breeders that was instrumental in sustaining the Oberhasli line was Esther Oman from the Santa Rosa area of Califormia. It is because of her tenacity in keeping the breed “pure” that the purebred Oberhasli still exists today.
The original founders of the OBA, Judy Stuckey Marshall of Cumberland, VA, Lib Zabriskie of Harper’s Ferry, WV, and Dorothea Custer of Harvard, IL, also played an important roll in consolidating the herd into a herdbook. The three were committed to the survival of the breed and through many years of hard dedicated work, the Oberhasli breed was finally recognized as a breed with its own herdbook in 1979.
Today, the breed is well recognized by its familiar color and markings that are part of its breed standards. It is know as a very gentle breed, medium size. Great strides has been made in breeding highly competive animals and they have grown in popularity.
Michael Binion got us started in Oberhasli when he came to live with us three years ago. Michael has really studied pedigrees and got us off to a wonderful start in a breed we said we would never own! We have had a 3rd place yearling with 3rd udder in 2007 and a 1st place Junior Kid at the 2008 Nationals of our own breeding. We owe a debt of gratitude to the following breeders who helped us with out venture into the breed. Cindy Von Thum, LuAnn Tuttle, John Miglio and Beth Kennelley. Our special thanks to Michael Binion for all his dedication to researching the breed quite thoroughly.

Sire: Udderly Crazy Holy Roller Dam: CH Welbian Farm’s Hot to Trot LA 90 VVEE Holy Moley did not look good on linear appraisal day. We were disappointed in her appraisal score as she has done so well in the show ring. She has two GCH wins as a two year old and a RGCH win. She needs to mature body wise but has a pretty mammary. Bred to: Acclaim |

Sire: Tonka -Tails Troubadour Dam: CH Welbian Farm’s Hot to Trot LA 90 VVEE I’m Too Hot was shown twice placing 1st in her class at one show and RGCH at another. Her mammary was nicer than her dams. We had such high hopes for this yearling. Unfortunately, she was our second doe to come down with gangrene mastitis and she lost the entire half of her udder. We were fortunate to save her. We are keeping her as a brood doe because we felt her potential was so good. Bred to: Acclaim |

Her mother, Bayberry was 3rd place 4 year old at the 2008 National Show. We feel Sheaberry will follow in her mother’s footsteps. Bred to: Accidently cross-bred---no kids available |
